The Patriots' win was their third in the past four years, and they are now tied with the Dallas Cowboys for the most Super Bowl wins by an NFL team.
"This is a special group of guys," Brady said after the game. "We never gave up. We knew it was going to be a tough game, but we found a way to win."
Belichick praised his team's resilience after they overcame a 25-point deficit in the second half to force overtime.
"I'm so proud of our players," Belichick said. "They never gave up. They fought back and showed a lot of character."
The Patriots' victory was a storybook ending to a season that was filled with adversity. The team lost its first two games of the season, and Brady was suspended for the first four games due to his involvement in the Deflategate scandal.
But the Patriots persevered and finished the season with a 14-2 record. They then won three playoff games, including a 36-17 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Championship Game, to reach the Super Bowl.
In the Super Bowl, the Patriots faced a tough challenge in the Falcons, who had the NFL's highest-scoring offense during the regular season. But the Patriots' defense rose to the occasion, holding the Falcons to just 28 points.
The Patriots took an early lead in the game, but the Falcons came back to tie the score at 28-28 with just over two minutes remaining in regulation. The Patriots then got the ball back and drove into field goal range, but Stephen Gostkowski missed a 53-yard field goal attempt as time expired.
The Patriots won the coin toss in overtime and got the ball first. They drove down the field and scored a touchdown on a 2-yard run by James White to win the game.
The Patriots' victory was a fitting end to a season that was full of drama and adversity. The team showed a lot of resilience and determination to overcome the challenges they faced. Brady and Belichick are now considered the greatest quarterback-coach tandem in NFL history, and they have the Super Bowl rings to prove it.
Here are some additional highlights from the game:
- Tom Brady's performance was one of the greatest in Super Bowl history. He threw for 466 yards and two touchdowns, and he led the Patriots on a game-winning drive in overtime.
- Bill Belichick's defense was outstanding in the second half. The Patriots held the Falcons to just three points in the second half and overtime.
- James White was a key contributor for the Patriots. He caught 14 passes for 139 yards and a touchdown, and he also scored the game-winning touchdown in overtime.
- The Falcons' offense was explosive, but they couldn't keep up with the Patriots in the second half and overtime. Matt Ryan threw for 284 yards and two touchdowns, but he was also intercepted twice.
- The Super Bowl was a thrilling game that was decided in overtime. The Patriots and Falcons traded blows throughout the game, and the Patriots ultimately prevailed in overtime.
The Patriots' victory was a great moment for the team and for the city of Boston. The team has now won five Super Bowls in the past 17 years, and they are one of the most successful teams in NFL history.
