Early Life
Steve Ross was born in New York City in 1922. His father was a tailor and his mother was a housewife. Ross had a difficult childhood. His father died when he was young, and his mother struggled to make ends meet. Ross dropped out of school at a young age and began working as an undertaker.
Comic Book Career
In the 1940s, Ross began working as a publisher of comic books. He founded the company Timely Comics, which later became Marvel Comics. Ross published a number of successful comic books, including The Human Torch and Captain America.
In 1961, Ross created The Fantastic Four. The team consisted of Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch, and The Thing. The Fantastic Four was an instant success, and it quickly became one of the most popular comic books in the world.
